DARBHANGA: In a major development, the LNMU and its 22 constituent colleges have sent their individual self study report (SSR) to the Bangalore-based National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC) for their respective gradation.
With this, the university and its colleges are now ready for being inspected by the committee of the NAAC at any time.

During inspection, the committee will award grading after validation of the SSR. Interestingly, the LNMU has become first in the state where colleges have also approached the NAAC for gradation.
Earlier, UGC had already decided that its plan-based financial support to the educational institutions would be related to the outcome of assessment and accreditation by NAAC. The entire exercise of preparing SSR by the university was undertaken by a nodal committee, headed by N K Dubey, HoD of the PG department of zoology, under the direct supervision of LNMU VC RP Sinha.
The significant aspect of SSR is the inclusion of teaching evaluation of more than 100 teachers of various PG departments by the students.
For the first time in the history of university, students'' feed back on the teaching performance of teachers have been collected. Students have rated their teachers on various counts, like, their communication skill, knowledge base, interest generating capacity in the classroom, ability to integrate course material with environment, accessibility of teachers in and out of the class, ability to design assignments and projects, students were also asked to comment whether teacher were courteous or rude, how much of the syllabus he had completed in the class, how well the teacher prepared himself for the class, in which way he encourages student''s participation in the class, whether helpful in advising the students etc.

According to university sources, the teachers should not be apprehensive on account of their ratings as it had been completely kept confidential and straight way had been sent to the NAAC, which had mentioned in its directive that the information from students would only be used for the improvement of the course and teaching.
According to sources, the university had mentioned in the SSR that process was going on to start women''s institute of technology and centre for teaching of disaster management in the university.
However, the university would be losing points during gradation on account of non-holding of students'' union elections.
